Sustainable Gingerbread Houses

Results from the "Bake for a Change" where contestants built/baked sustainable homes made of gingerbread.

Now the sustainability of the ingredients themselves might be a different story...

Cool Toys

I enjoy visiting SpunkySprout on ocassion as they have a lot of neat offerings ranging from apparel, furniture, and beautifully crafted wooden toys.

Many of these toys are made using laser-cut plywood and use no glue or screws. Everything is snap-fitted.

This method of assembly is both pleasant, because no glue or screws are used, and it is much safer for the child, to the point where part of the play could in fact be the assembly of the toy. It is also very simple to manufacture and package.

Others toys on the site transcend their status of toys and can be cherished and appreciated by people of all ages, simply for their beauty and craftmanship.

Rebranding "second-hand"

The return to popularity of the DIY (do-it-yourself) movement seems to have led to a new trend – two new shops have just opened their doors in Zurich, Switzerland, each of which in its own way succeeds in turning the old into the new.

"All sorts of objects, most of them from the 'Brockenhaus' second-hand shops, are sanded down, cleaned up and decorated with hand-painted Lashlings."

Les Solstices Energetiques

A really unique look at the energy solstice concept (daylight savings etc) from scenocosme, a design couple's collaborative. They've created a kit for the two solstices of summer and winter which includes various objects and literature, creating symbolic portrayals of energy.
Their concept and more information can be found here.
